H for HEALING

As I started writing on this topic, I felt myself drawn in many directions: the Healing we can cultivate as a community, the shared human experience of healing from various struggles, and the profound capacity for healing that lies within each of us, even when we can’t fully grasp it.

At the most basic level, our bodies possess an incredible ability to heal. Consider a simple example: when you scrape your knee, it bleeds. Yet, after a short while, you notice the wound starting to heal. A scab forms, the skin closes, and within days, the scab falls away. There’s no need to consult a doctor or ask for guidance on how to heal; your body knows what to do.

(Take a second and embrace how incredible this is, and how life would be if this wasn't something your body could it by itself!)

I have seen my body heal, time after time, I cherish this capacity it has ; as a dancer seeing the way to body heals after each rehearsals or training sessions is inspiring.

As I write this in October 2024, I find it intriguing that the next letter in my exploration will be ‘I’ for Injuries and how in this Injury piece, and all I talk about, is healing from it. It strikes me as ironic that Healing comes before Injury, a reminder that healing is a continuous, silent force keeping us healthy, before, during and after being hurt.

My priority for the end of 2024 is to focus on nurturing my body’s, I know I must play an active role in this operation. How can I support my own healing? By nourishing myself with wholesome foods, staying hydrated, ensuring restful sleep, and engaging in activities that fuel my soul with energy, joy, and love. Sounds cheesy but you would be surprise on how these 4 rules can change your life. I dare you to try.

Throughout my healing journey (arriving on year 15…), caring for my body has been the pathway to healing my mind. Witnessing my body recover from injuries — some that I believed would end my career — has instilled a belief in me that with time and trust, anything is possible. Time does heal.

I refuse to be my own worst enemy any longer, complicating my journey with self-doubt and swallow mindset. This realization is my magic pill: maximizing my abilities by prioritizing my well-being.

Healing might seem like a distant, unattainable concept, but it’s truly within everyone’s reach. Remember, healing is not just a destination; it’s a journey we can embark on together, but you need to be selfish about it.
